The Creative Home: Yarn Along
My 2nd Shalom is coming along nicely – although I have just run out of yarn and am waiting for another ball to arrive – hopefully in the next day or two so that I can finish up by the weekend.
I have added that 4th buttonhole I spoke of in my last Shalom post so am keen to see the end result. I have also used a 6.5mm needle for this cardi and am finding that the fit is a little better for me. It really is such a minor sizing difference but even that little adjustment makes a difference.
Reading – I am keen to expand my knowledge and start learning a few basic principals in knitwear design. When I spotted Debbi Bliss’s book ‘Design it, knit it’ on the library shelf I wasted no time in popping it into my book bag :). I glanced through it’s pages yesterday and love what I saw – now to find a bit of time to delve in deeper!

I love the purple yarn you are using! So pretty! I haven't really thought about knit design, well that isn't accurate, I just don't know how I would even attempt it! Maybe I should put this book on my list 🙂

Hi there, it's nice to find another English blog over at Ginny's. I've been thinking about making a shalom cardigan too but adding sleeves on like Amanda Soule at soulemama blog. It must be frustrating waiting for the next ball of yarn to arrive…hope it comes quickly.
I haven't seen that Debbie Bliss book before but have a few of her magazines on my shelves with more than a few items earmarked to make at some future point.
Hope the yarn wait isn't too long.

Love the purple color! It looks beautiful. I envy all of you knitters. I am a crocheter and just can't grasp knitting. 🙂

I was pleased to find another English blog through Yarn Along too, hi from London! 🙂
That book looks interesting, though daunting! I will see if our library has it.

Hello, I found your blog via Natural Suburbia and was excited to find a fellow South African, homeschooling in the UK. We are also from Cape Town… now in PE for a while and soon to be heading for Scotland! I too love knitting and crocheting and LOVE the colour for your 2nd Shalom Cardigan – I have looked at this pattern before, but was a bit daunted by it.. keen to see how it looks with an extra button hole! I am loving your blog – will be popping over regularly! Liezel

Hello Liezel :o) – Lovely to 'meet' you. There are plenty of us in the UK. When we first moved over here we had every intention of heading for Scotland too – but God had other ideas ;o) – We are now very happy in the beautiful market town of Chesterfield. Have you joined up with the Christian home educators eloop here in the UK? Here's the link: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/deut6v7/
We joined up before moving to the UK – it really helped us get acquainted with people before hand and then subsequently in our area.
Many blessings for your big move.
X Shirley

Thank you Shirley – I shall most certainly check that eloop out! I am very excited I must say especially as it affords me the blessing of having my little family together again. My husband has been in the Middle East for almost 2 years now. We have remained in SA for easy access to OT and therapy for our little boy who is on the Autism Spectrum. Scotland means an opportunity to be together again and we are infinitely grateful for this blessing. Looking forward to seeing a 'tadah' post about Shalom no 2! x

Ooh! I have a Shalom on my list to knit and will have to check out your notes. I keep seeing purples today; yours is a lovely shade!
