What a lovely article! We sometimes enjoy elevenses here at our house; in fact, I blogged about the idea of elevenses a while back. I laughed about tea being a cure-all; I recall an episode from "As Time Goes By" in which Sandy thought she was being followed at night. Once she got home and told everyone, the first response from anyone (Lionel) was "I'll put the kettle on." I blogged about that, too! I was interested to learn you are originally from SA. Himself's roommate when he and I met was from Gordon's Bay. After living here in the States for a few years, Andre married a girl from here and then they moved to Jo'burg, where they live now.

Really enjoyed your post on Bevy's blog. I hope you are feeling more settled with your English friends. I'm from Manchester originally and we like to think Lancastrians are the most friendly people. I bought a crockpot over the weekend from John Lewis on your recommendation. I used a slowcooker when I was first married in the 1970's but it seemed like a good idea for all those winter casseroles. I'll try it out tonight

      Hello Catherine,

I am pleased to say that I am feeling completely settled with my English friends now. It has taken a few years to establish that feeling of community and belonging but we are getting there 🙂

I'm so glad you bought a crockpot! You are going to have fab time experimenting with it. Over the past month I have made the most delicious meals I never thought possible! Check out my Slow Cooker Goodness Pinterest Board for recipes.
