On The Needles

Linking up with Ginny from Small Things

Can you believe that I left my knitting behind when we went to Scotland!? I was so focused on not leaving any essentials behind that my needles and yarn completely got overlooked. I’m pretty sure that if I had taken them along my Hermione socks would have been completed. Anyhoo, since getting home over the weekend I’ve made excellent progress. The pattern is very easy to memorise which makes knitting these socks a doddle. I have finished up one sock and have started on the other, my aim is to have them both ready to wear by the end of the week.

Reading: I’m reading Alexander McCall Smith’s ‘Tea Time for the Traditionally Build’. He is a fabulous author who lives in Edinburgh. This book is part of the No1 Detective Agency series which is set in Botswana (Africa). I read the first book years ago (No 1 Detective Agency) and found it a delightful read. The books are about Precious Ramotswe and her detective agency in Gaborone, the capital of Botswana. She is full of character and has a host of colourful characters surrounding her. She often has lots of small cases on the go but every so often something bigger crops up.

May is nearing it’s end and it has been a beautiful month here in England. A bit cooler than average on the temperature side but it’s been nice. I’ll be back tomorrow to share a little of May’s glory before we bid the month goodbye for another year.

Have a great day all…

Shame about the knitting been left behind, but you are making great progress. I would love to be able to knit socks they are such a luxury, hand knitted socks. I have found a pattern to crochet some but they don't have the same appeal.

You are quite right – there is nothing like hand knitted socks! I never thought it would matter much to me if I wore store-bought or hand knitted, but since wearing hand knit socks there's no going back 🙂

The socks are lovely! I'll admit I'd go bonkers without my knitting on a trip. Travel time for me is the best knitting time.

I hope to be able to tackle a pair of socks by the end of the year. I have only been knitting a couple of months, so have a ways to go. Love the colour of your yarn and that book sounds interesting.

Gill when I knitted my first pair I was surprised at how easy it was. Give it a go 🙂

Gorgeous orange! I cannot imagine not having my knitting on a holiday – I would be totally bereft!

I know! And believe me I was totally bereft when I discovered my left-behind mistake. Fortunately you can't be sad for long in Scotland – the scenery is just to uplifting 🙂

I've always wanted to read something by him. They look so wonderfully entertaining. 🙂 I'll add that to my list of summer reading! Love the sock colour.

Your sock looks great (love the colour), I abandoned mine – I just couldn't get the heel right, when I came to pick up the stitches it looked very messy? I've made lots of socks before but not using this pattern – I'm probably making a silly mistake somewhere….

I tried one of his books one time and it couldn't hold my attention, but it was on audio. Maybe if I were sitting down and reading it….
I have wondered if I would feel the same about knit socks if I ever had a pair. I just don't know about the elastic. Do yours stretch out and get floppy? What is your favorite sock yarn?

I just cannot imagine the moment of realization that your knitting had been left behind…oh my! Love the orange and glad the first one fits so well! My daughter and son-in-law will be in Scotland for three years; we're hoping to visit them, Lord willing! I've heard it's the most beautiful place!

I really enjoyed those books, more than his stuff set in Scotland, I hope you like them too! I'm a bit traditionally built myself…
