Autumn Stitching
I started working on this little woodland fox in the weeks before we packed up and moved home.Â
I actually managed to finish him before the move too – but not sew it up into a little decorative cushion.
That will be this weeks mission. To finish off this little stitchery to add to my other autumnal stitched cushions 🙂
And speaking of autumnal things…
look what I spotted along the wayside, an empty Horse Chestnut. I wonder where the conker is? Perhaps a little child took it away with him for a game of conkers in the school yard 😉

The little fox is a delight. There is a definite shift in season, Autumn is firmly here to stay.

Neat sewing, what size is the little cushion? A horse chestnut or Conker placed in the corner of a room is supoosed tokeep spiders away. The childrens game of conkers is banned in some if not all schools….health and safety. When I was little, we used to temper our conkers by soaking them in vinegar then baking in the oven until they were hard, then polishing them. Piercing the conker through with a long nail or bodkin, so we could attach a string (with a big knot at the bottom) ready to play in the hope our conker would at least become a Sixer ie a conker which had won against 6 others by smashing them. Do you play conkers in the States?

Hi Sandy, I didn't know that a Conker placed int he corner of a room is supposed to keep spiders away! I'm not a huge spider fan so I think I might give that a go. I live in the UK so not sure about conkers in the States 😉 I know that the schools have banned them but I still see kids playing them outside of school occasionally and have often overheard a parent sharing words of conker wisdom (on tempering etc) with their young ones lol.

Like the other commentator, we used to put string through conkers. It seems a very long time ago!
