Knit, Bake, and Decorate…

Summer hols are here! Let me tell you, it is lovely to just be for a little while. I love our term-time routines and am always more than ready to start back at lessons in September, but August brings a little freedom to my days – and a bit of lesson planning for the upcoming school year, one of my favourite bits!

So a quick catch up… I finished the Oaklet Shawl using my ‘Keep Calm and Carry On‘ Fingering weight yarn. I’ve knitted this shawl pattern before and I remember being disappointed because it didn’t knit up as big as I would have liked. Same result this time round I’m afraid so I will not be knitting this pattern again. I’ve decided to keep the shawl as sample knit for my yarns.

I’ve been working on a few autumnal and Halloween yarns for my shop over the past few weeks. 

The Halloween yarns went live today, I love how they worked out.

Ooooo, I want to share something with you. My girls are going to a ‘Bring and Share’ tonight. I wanted to give them something to take that was *delicious *easy to whip up and *something savoury…because usually when the girls go to a ‘Bring and Share’ evening with friends they all bring sweets and bakes, and as it is supposed to be ‘supper’ something savoury is in order.

My first port of call was my trusty ‘Yum-Yum’ Pinterest board and that is where I found a pin for these delicious Baked Ham and Cheese Roll Ups. Let me tell you, they smell (and hopefully will taste) heavenly. 

And… from the garden…Hydrangeas! I have two HUGE Hydrangea shrubs and each summer they yield an ample supply of flower heads. I love filling my home with them while they last. One of the joys of summer 😊

    I love Hydrangeas, we have beautiful pink blooms on ours. I think the colour is affected by the acidity or not in the soil xx

      That's true Cheryl, the acidity or alkalinity of the soil does indeed affect the colour of the blooms 🙂

    Your hydrangeas are beautiful!! Your shawl is so lovely too thanks to your work and beautiful yarn, shame that it isn't large enough for what you wanted, but it does make a lovely sample doesn't it!

    My 17 yr old daughter is preparing "pizza rolls" as I sit here now! We use a rectangle of bought pizza dough and top it with ready made pasta sauce, chopped ham and grated cheddar before rolling and slicing ready to bake. They make an excellent packed lunch for our menfolk in their tractors, and a quick grab and go for the rest of us too!
    I am looking forwards to receiving my Halloween wool in September!

      Gill those sound delish! I will definitely write that down in my recipe book and give it a try. Can't wait to get your yarn off to you – they are so lovely. I'm about to cast on a pair in the 'Bewitched' this week!

    Love the colors of the shawl, Shirley-Ann. I finally rounded up everything I need to start knitting and hope to at least get some first stitches this week. Thank you for the site you recommended, Winwick Mum. I think her tutorials will be just the thing to get me through this.

      Well done Elizabeth! I'm so glad you have all the tools to get going on your socks. Winwick Mum's tutorials are wonderful. I'm always amazed at the photographs first-time sock knitters post!
